Terrific Thursday

Today was all about fossils! We learned how fossils were made. Ask your preschooler if they remember. We also found that many animals and plants can become fossilized.

We created our own fossils today by making salt dough. The preschoolers measured all of the ingredients, mixed and kneaded the dough. After letting the dough cool in the refrigerator, we rolled it out and made our dinosaur or bone imprints.

The preschoolers loved their fossils and were excited to show them to you today!

During Jesus time we did an action poem to review our story of the week. As I spoke a poem, they copied my motions. This was a fun and hands-on way to review our story.

See some of you tomorrow!

Wonderful Wednesday

We started our day with a book called Dinosaur babies. We learned that dinosaurs hatch from eggs. Ask your preschooler if they can remember anything else about Dino babies.

During centers..

-we colored a dinosaur baby and then cut out an egg pattern. We glued them to paper and made them look like the baby was hatching.
-colored the letter y and cut out pictures that start with y
-measured the size of a T. rex foot using unifix cubes and other objects from around the classroom
-dug in the sensory tub in search of dinosaur bones

During Jesus time we reviewed the story of Palm Sunday. We talked about how many people saw Jesus as a King. Zippy came to visit wearing a crown and talked about how he wanted to be a king. In the end he asked to put his crown on our classroom cross because he knew Jesus was the real king.

During movement and music time we used our Smartboard to listen to a song called Dino-Stomp. Ask your preschooler if they remember how the dance goes.

See many of you tomorrow.

Tip-Top Tuesday

This week we are learning about dinosaurs. The preschoolers love this topic and are so interested.

Today we learned about Paleontologists. We learned that they use special tools to search for dinosaur bones. We pretended to be Paleontologists when we played in our sensory tub, we used paintbrushes and shovels to search for our own Dino bones.

Our project of the day was to use Dino bones (q-tips) to make our own dinosaurs. The preschoolers had fun creating their dinosaurs and naming them too!

During chapel today we learned about when Jesus was put on the cross. We talked about how Jesus suffered so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life. Ask your preschooler if they remember anything from the story.

See many of you tomorrow!

Wonderful Wednesday

We started our day by reading “Jack and the Beanstalk”. This story was one that the preschoolers loved listening to.
They finished lines of the story and made great predictions about what would happen next. We have also been working on retellinf our story using words like 1st, 2nd, next etc.

We were creative during center time and made our own Beanstalks. The preschoolers
Used yarn, shredded paper, tissue paper and beans to create their stalks.

Other centers were-

-Coloring, cutting and pasting on the letter x
-sensory tub with beans
-counting beans into muffin tins

We read from our Story Bible about Jesus healing the 10 lepers. We continue to see why it is important to thank God for all he does.

We continued our Fairy Tale theme today by reading The Three Little Pigs. As we read I used hand puppets to help tell the story.

When we were finished we talked about position words like 1st, 2nd and 3rd. This helped us tell the story in the correct order.

Some of our other centers were:

-3 Little Pigs sensory tub with sticks, bricks and Hay
-Letter X dobber center
– 3 Little Pigs coloring sheet

We had chapel today. Pastor Larson helped us fill our carton full of Resurection eggs. Each egg is filled with something to remind us of our Bible Story. Ask your preschooler what has been in the eggs so far.

Marvelous Monday

This week we are reading Fairy Tales. We started our week by reading “The Gingerbread Man”

We did a lot of retelling the story through discussion and dramatic play.

Our project of the day was to Roll-A-Gingerbread man. In this activity we rolled dice to build our Gingerbread man. Each # on the dice represented a different part of the gingerbread man. We turned this into a game and the preschoolers loved it.

During Jesus time we began our lesson on praying in Jesus name. We learned of a group of people who prayed to Jesus to be healed of their illness. When they were healed only 1 came back to thank Jesus.

See many of you tomorrow!

Terrific Thursday

We had quite an exciting day in preschool. We started our day with a photoshoot for our St. Lucas website and started centers early. The preschoolers were so flexible and worked with our crazy schedule.

We talked about wind and how wind makes things move, even though we can’t see it. To demonstrate this we used straws to create our own wind. We tried to blow different objects like feathers, rocks, crayons and other objects. We talked about which objects were easiest and hardest to move.

Our project of the day was to create a windsock. We used dobbers and streamers to create or windsocks. Have your preschooler show you how wind moves through the streamers.

During Jesus time we read in our Story Bible. We read the story of Zaccheus and saw pictures to help tell the story. These pictures help brings the story to life! Ask your preschooler what they remember about our Bible Story.

See many of you tomorrow!

Tip Top Tuesday

We started our morning by discussing rain. We learned that rain falls only when a cloud is filled with too full with water. We showed this by filling up a paper bag with shredded tissue paper. I blew into the bag to show that the cloud was filling with water. When it was too full I popped the bag to show that once it was full it rained. The preschoolers really enjoyed this demonstration and wanted to see it another time.

We started centers with some science activities to show why it rains. We used cotton balls to absorb water droplets made by pipe-ettes. Once the cotton balls were filled with water we squeezed them and watched it rain. We did a similar activity to demonstrate this new way. this activity we used shaving cream to model clouds and used pipe-ettes to put water into the clouds. When the clouds were too full we saw rain in the bottom of the cup! The pipe-ettes also helped us work on hand strength and our pincer grasp.

We went to chapel today and talked about Jesus journey into Jerusalem. Ask your preschooler what Jesus rode on to get there.

We learned a new song today called this little light. Ask your preschooler to sing it for you.

See you tomorrow!

Marvelous Monday

This week we are learning about weather. We started our week with clouds. We briefly talked about the different kinds of clouds we see in the sky. We also talked about some of the shapes we can see in the sky. We read Little Cloud by Eric Carle and noticed that clouds can change.

Our project of the day was to create our own clouds. We did some symmetry painting to create these clouds. We folded a piece of paper in half as used white paint to make our cloud shapes. After painting we folded our paper over to see the print the cloud made on the other side. We had many different cloud shapes, dogs, flowers, butterflies etc.

Our other centers were:
-W yarn book page
-name writing for portfolios
-building W with wooden pieces
-counting clouds and making shapes out of clouds

During Jesus time we began talking about a man named Zaccheus. We knew that Zachcheus didn’t have many people who liked him because he was a tax collector. But Jesus came to visit and Zaccheus changed his life. Ask your preschooler what Zaccheus did to make this change.

*Reminders*

We are excited to be working with Pastor Larson on expanding the Early Childhood Center at St. Lucas. On Thursday, March 9, we have scheduled a photoshoot with a trusted photographer to capture images of our facility and kids. If possible, please prepare your child like you would on picture day. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Megan Arnold, Marketing and Outreach Director, at 314-832-1244 ext 12 or marnold@wordoflifeschool.net.

Terrific Thursday

This morning we read”Oh The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss. This is one of my personal favorites and it seemed to intrigue many of the preschoolers. I saw them experience many emotions while reading the story.

During centers we,

-Used different shaped sponges to paint and decorate hot air balloons (to fit in with our story) and took silly pictures. These will be displayed in the classroom tomorrow!
-Used geoboards and rubber bands to make shapes and letters
-talked about the letter V and made vases with flowers inside

Zippy visited during Jesus time and was so BUSY that he missed out on a special surprise I had for him! This reminded us of our Bible story for the week. Martha missed out on the wonderful Word that Jesus was sharing because she was busy with other things. We talked about how no matter what we have going on, we need to make sure that we have time for Jesus.

See many of you tomorrow!
